Understanding SNAP: How You Can Be An Advocate

April 19 @ 10:00 am - 10:50 am

The draconian changes to SNAP benefits are seriously affecting local low-income families, veterans, caregivers, and the elderly. Join us at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 19, to understand these changes, and to hear how two Philadelphia organizations are actively addressing the situation.

Community Legal Services (clsphila.org) is a nationally recognized legal service program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income Philadelphians. Staff Attorney Tue Ho, a St. Peter’s School alumnus (Class of 2004)  will discuss how CLS supports SNAP beneficiaries in obtaining and maintaining benefits, and trains lay people to be advocates. Crossroads Women’s Center in Germantown, a multiracial, community based center for collective support and advocacy against poverty, will discuss their SNAP Defense Group. Their goals are educating and advocating for SNAP beneficiaries through workshops and fighting for legislative changes.
