“In God We Trust” Book Study

St. Peter’s is partnering with Old Pine Presbyterian and Gloria Dei “Old Swedes” churches for a five-week Wednesday night book study group. Together, we will discuss the book “In God We Trust: The Origins of Christian Nationalism” by Rev. Jimmie R. Hawkins. We will explore the origins of Christian nationalism, the basic tenets of Christian nationalism, and the impact it has on the church and nation. We will also discuss the church’s role in speaking out to clarify and reclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We will be reading 15-20 page excerpts for each class. Class members are welcome to read the rest of the book as they are interested.

The first class will be held on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Old Pine Presbyterian Church at 412 Pine Street. The class will be led by retired Presbyterian pastor Rev. Dr. Rob Erickson. We will share a light supper at each class, and locations will alternate between the participating churches. Please let Rev. Laurie know if you would like to participate.
