Education for Ministry

Many people have been taught that one must be ordained to be a minister, but our vows at baptism say something different: that all baptized Christians are ministers. We are called to be the hands, heart, and incarnate body of Christ in our own place through worship, reflection, service to others, and by the proclamation of God’s Word to all people.
The Education for Ministry program is designed to help Christians prepare for their ministry. The program is offered through the School of Theology at the University of the South. It is a mentor-led program of Old Testament, New Testament, church history, and philosophical study and reflection. All of these topics are navigated and explored through the lives and spiritual reflection of the members of the group navigating the space together.
Tess Farmer from Christ Church graduated from this program in 2008, and it was one of the most formative spiritual experiences she has ever lived. The program built an incredible community and fundamentally altered the way she experienced scripture, community, and the work we are all given to do.
Christ Church and St. Peter’s plan to launch this program in cooperation with each other, and invite you to learn more about Education for Ministry on May 17. Tess will be with us to introduce the program and answer your questions! If you are interested in learning more about this program, please join us!
