Event Series Event Series: Feeding Our Neighbors

Feeding Our Neighbors

January 28 @ 10:00 am - 10:50 am

Join us at St. Peter’s to learn more about food insecurity. We will host two Sunday morning events featuring two local women who are champions for social justice.

Part 1: Food Sovereignty & Empowerment – A Vision for Ending Hunger
10 a.m. Sunday, January 28
Featuring Reverend Carolyn Clarene Cavaness, Pastor of Bethel AME Church Ardmore & Princess Rahman, Head Farmer for Ardmore Victory Gardens

Learn about The Bethel AME Church Community Garden and Victory Gardens, which grows fresh and healthy food for free distribution as well as providing families and community members with garden beds and farming support to learn how to grow their own food. Their vision moves beyond trying to provide food in the short-term but eliminate hunger through food sovereignty. Come to learn about their vision for ending hunger and the real-life image of what this can look like.

Following the 10 a.m. program, Rev. Cavaness will preach at the 11 a.m. worship service.

Part 2: Food Insecurity in 2024 – Data, Policy, and Impact on Health
10 a.m. Sunday, February 4
Featuring Suzanne Ghee, CEO of Thrive Public Affairs & St. Peter’s Food Cupboard Community Members

Long-time food advocate Suzanne Ghee will provide an overview of the state of food insecurity in our city and region – where food prices and the rate of hunger are higher than during the peak of the pandemic. After setting the context, members of the St. Peter’s Food Cupboard community will join Ms. Ghee for a fireside chat where they will share their own experiences and questions around how we feed our neighbors.

Both events will be held in-person at the Parish House at 313 Pine Street. You can also join us on Zoom:
