In addition to participating in worship online, consider taking part in some of these activities to deepen your Holy Week.

Follow Jesus through Matthew’s telling of Holy Week. Each morning, a member of St. Peter’s Vestry will read a chapter from Matthew’s gospel, aligning readings with what took place on each day of Jesus’ life. This is a time to connect with the texts, with God, and with your own Lenten journey towards the cross…and towards Easter. Listen to the gospel every Monday through Friday during Holy Week at 8:30 AM on our Facebook page.

Our lives are incredibly compressed right now; in whatever way and to whatever extent it’s possible, create some space at home that is available anytime of day or night to anyone in your household. In the midst of the chaos, building a home altar or sacred space may be an excellent way to create order and peace.

It is quite simple and can be done with what you already have at home most likely. Find a surface in a low traffic area…it is helpful to have it in a quiet area where there is little “action.” Get more ideas here.

Remember, worship should be physical and sensory as well as intellectual and spiritual.

Body: Make sure your seat(s) is/are clear and comfortable. If it’s your custom to kneel during confession or prayer, have a pillow handy and space to take on that posture.

Senses: Place a candle or two in view and light them before services. Set a favorite icon or cross nearby. And don’t forget your nose — if you have incense, flowers, or herbs at the ready, incorporate them into your worship space, as well.
