SUMMARY:The Way of the Cross
DESCRIPTION:On the cross Jesus said: “My God\, My God\, Why have you forsaken me?” as if to say “Why is it like this?” He was one who was not separate from our own suffering. \nMany of us feel the weight of anxiety and fear as we journey through the current world. During this season of Lent\, we look to the life and teachings of Jesus. We have hung stations of the cross along our brick wall on Pine Street\, where we pair the traditional story of Jesus’ crucifixion with contemporary issues and images\, showing struggle\, resilience\, and hope. \nWe will gather together to walk and pray these stations on Good Friday at 1 p.m.

SUMMARY:Seven Last Words Service
DESCRIPTION:The Seven Last Words is a service commemorating the words Jesus said from the cross as reported in the Gospels. Each passage from scripture is followed by a brief homily\, a prayer and a simple\, acapella hymn. \nSeven lay ministers from St. Peter’s will offer the homilies at our Seven Last Words service on Good Friday. Hearing reflections from a variety of voices and the simplicity of this service make it uniquely moving. Please join us. \nWe invite everyone to journey with us through the season of Lent. Click here to view our full schedule of Lenten services and events. We hope there is something that will interest you and engage you this Lenten season.

SUMMARY:Holy Saturday: A Lament\, A Container
DESCRIPTION:A Grief and Drawing Workshop\nClick here to register \nArtist Marie Elcin\, who has partnered with St. Peter’s for events before\, will lead a workshop exploring grief and drawing on Holy Saturday. This will be a contemplative and tender space to spend Holy Saturday\, a quiet day in the Church’s story – the day when Christ lies in the tomb\, when grief is real and hope feels hidden. In the Episcopal tradition\, we honor this in-between space\, trusting that even in silence and sorrow\, God is at work. Together\, through simple drawing practices and optional ritual release\, we will make space for lament\, memory\, and the tender hope that even in the tomb\, Love has not abandoned us. \nYou do not need any artistic skill or experience to participate. Please do not let any drawing hesitation prevent you from this holy space on this holy day. Bring an object that feels related to a lost one or a grief experience.

SUMMARY:Sages Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Sages is an energetic group of retired parishioners who meet monthly on a Wednesday for lunch and discussion. Often the meeting is accompanied by a presentation from authors\, leaders in the arts\, and other people of interest. All ages are welcome to attend\, and friends are always welcome. \nThis month we will welcome special guest Steven Ujifusa\, author of “The Last Ships from Hamburg.” It chronicles the mass exodus of Jews from Eastern Europe to America in the early years of the 20th century and the men who made it possible. \n\nMr. Ujifusa majored in history as an undergraduate at Harvard and earned a master’s degree in historic preservation at the University of Pennsylvania.\n\nBring a brown bag lunch! Hope to see you!

SUMMARY:Understanding SNAP: How You Can Be An Advocate
DESCRIPTION:The draconian changes to SNAP benefits are seriously affecting local low-income families\, veterans\, caregivers\, and the elderly. Join us at 10 a.m. Sunday\, April 19\, to understand these changes\, and to hear how two Philadelphia organizations are actively addressing the situation. \nCommunity Legal Services (clsphila.org) is a nationally recognized legal service program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income Philadelphians. Staff Attorney Tue Ho\, a St. Peter’s School alumnus (Class of 2004)  will discuss how CLS supports SNAP beneficiaries in obtaining and maintaining benefits\, and trains lay people to be advocates. Crossroads Women’s Center in Germantown\, a multiracial\, community based center for collective support and advocacy against poverty\, will discuss their SNAP Defense Group. Their goals are educating and advocating for SNAP beneficiaries through workshops\, fighting for legislative changes and training people like us to assist SNAP recipients.

SUMMARY:Family Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Although St. Peter’s welcomes children at all times\, a special service for young children and their families takes place at 9 a.m. every Sunday during the school year. This service nurtures children’s spiritual formation and growth through singing\, stories\, crafts\, and communion. It is a playful\, energetic service\, led each week by a member of the clergy and our Children’s Ministry Leader on guitar. This is a long-standing service at St. Peter’s\, often attracting 30-40 attendees each week. The Family Worship service is held at 9 a.m. in the Parish House at 313 Pine Street. \nIf you’d like to be added to our email list to receive notices about Family Worship\, please sign up for our email newsletter here or contact Associate Rector Rev. Sarah Hedgis-Kligerman at hedgis-kligerman@stpetersphila.org.
