SUMMARY:Lessons from Dietrich Bonhoeffer in a House Divided and a World on Fire
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the life and theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer\, and the lessons we can use as we live at the intersection of faith and civic life today. Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor and theologian living in Nazi Germany\, who eventually joined the resistance and was arrested and killed before the end of WWII. \nThis curriculum was compiled by Dr. Lori Brandt Hale\, an internationally renowned Bonhoeffer scholar and president of the International Bonhoeffer Society – English Language Section. Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania is a partner in distributing to congregations to inspire deeper conversation and discernment about how we live as disciples.

SUMMARY:Repairers of the Breach
DESCRIPTION:Our country is at a hinge moment that calls for people of faith to stand up against all sinful systems of oppression and violence. Many members of St. Peter’s are deeply engaged in this work. St. Peter’s Repairers of the Breach Workshops will feature lay ministers who will share what they are doing to confront the political  powers that diminish\, violate\, and threaten the lives of our neighbors. \nThis two-part workshop will feature parishioner Matt Hall\, a tenure-track professor of Communication Sciences & Disorders at Temple University\, where he directs the First Language Foundations Lab: dedicated to maximizing the developmental potential of all deaf and hard-of-hearing children through theoretical and applied research\, with a primary focus on preventing language deprivation. Matt’s approach to this work is informed by his understanding that no one who bears God’s image is broken\, and that God’s kingdom values diversity over hegemony. These beliefs also reflect Matt’s spiritual journey: having grown up gay & closeted in conservative evangelical spaces\, he sees clear parallels between the ways that many parents treat deaf children and LGBTQ children\, and works to create a world in which all children can grow into who God made them to be. \nClergy will provide Biblical and theological context\, giving participants the opportunity to discuss how the work being done is discipleship in practice.

SUMMARY:Responding to Christian Nationalism
DESCRIPTION:Christians Against Christian Nationalism (CACN) is a grassroots campaign built to resist Christian nationalism which CACN defines as a merging of “Christian and American identities\, distorting both the Christian faith and America’s constitutional democracy. Christian nationalism is a framework of thinking that demands Christianity be privileged by the State and implies that to be a good American\, one must be Christian.”   \nPlease join Rev. Laurie for a workshop created by CACN to help Christians identify the corrosive theology that turns Christian discipleship into a weapon of domination instead of a tool of liberation\, followed by and discussion about how\, at this moment when Christian Nationalism is surging in our nation\, we can resist.
