SUMMARY:Advent Dinner & Adult Forum
DESCRIPTION:While Christmas is the celebration of the nativity of Jesus\, Advent is a season of preparing for God to sit in judgement of the earth. Many Christians believe God will sort the sinners from the saints at the final judgement and send the later to their eternal reward and the former to their eternal punishment. How does this belief shape one’s understanding of God\, Jesus\, and divine love? \nTo explore this idea\, as part of our observance of Advent\, St. Peter’s will meet weekly for dinner on Wednesday nights to discuss Rev. Brian Recker’s book\, Hell Bent. Here is an abbreviated synopsis: \nThere is a black hole at the center of Christian spirituality: the doctrine of hell. No matter how hard we try to believe in a loving God\, the fear of eternal torment always lurks at the back of our minds\, warping our sense of what love means…..But does the Bible really say we’re going to hell if we don’t do or believe the “right” things? Former evangelical pastor Brian Recker boldly reimagines the core questions of faith\, such as why Jesus lived and died\, and what it means to be “saved.” \nPlease let Rev. Laurie know if you will be joining the discussion: wurm@stpetersphila.org. Hell Bent is available on audible and Kindle. If you would like to purchase a copy\, please consider doing to at Headhouse Books\, 619 S. 2nd Street.

SUMMARY:Sages Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Sages is an energetic group of retired parishioners who meet monthly on a Wednesday for lunch and discussion. Often the meeting is accompanied by a presentation from authors\, leaders in the arts\, and other people of interest. All ages are welcome to attend\, and friends are always welcome. \nOur guest for November: Building Conservation Associates\, Inc. (BCA)\, located at 242 Cherry Street in Old City\, Philadelphia\, specializes in both the technical and historical aspects of restoring buildings and works of art. Dorothy Krotzer\, Director\, and Kate Whitney-Schubb\, Staff Conservator\, will present on the recently completed grave marker conservation project. They will share details of the year-long project\, which involved identifying the most damaged markers followed by the stabilization and restoration of 27 grave markers within St. Peter’s churchyard. The presentation will cover the conservation techniques BCA used to treat the markers\, along with discussing the challenges and obstacles the team faced and how they were successfully overcome. \nBring a brown bag lunch! Hope to see you!

SUMMARY:All Things Bright & Beautiful: Morning Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom every Wednesday morning for “All Things Bright and Beautiful: Creation Bible Study and Prayer.” This special morning prayer will continue through the end of the November\, as part of St. Peter’s celebration of Creation Season.\n\nThe starting point of all theology is awe at the natural world.  Being part of and yet having dominion over creation is what makes human beings uniquely in the image of God.  How do we know the author of creation by what They have made? And how does our peculiar “God imaged-ness” shape our relationship with God and the earth itself? Join Rev. Laurie to explore Biblical stories on these themes.  We’ll end each meeting a bit before 8:30 a.m. to share thanksgivings and concerns and join together in prayer before we set off into the day.\n\nAll are welcome. You do not need to do anything to prepare. Come as you are. This Morning Prayer is on Zoom only\, not in-person! Join on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84073270479?pwd=r9Ur0NRyDxbmb0sPk0ykauzq9BTva2.1.\nMeeting ID: 840 7327 0479; Passcode: 517297

SUMMARY:Advent Series: The Will to Dream
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this 6-week Advent series rooted in prophetic imagination—a phrase powerfully explored by the late theologian and biblical scholar Walter Brueggemann—in the sacred practice to see beyond what is and move toward what could be. Each week\, we will explore a theme rooted in one of our lectionary readings and engage the theme through a variety of approaches\, including Bible Study\, art\, our own experiences\, spiritual practices\, and more.  \nThis Advent series provides tools to help us confront despair\, embody justice\, and claim hope as a radical act. From Isaiah’s vision to Mary’s song\, we will find ourselves in the story—and begin to dream not as escape\, but as spiritual resistance.  \nRead more from the creators about The Will to Dream: In this time of upheaval\, we find trust is fragile\, truth contested\, and spaces between us feel harder to cross. Divisions stretch far and wide. The constant churn of political tension leaves many feeling anxious and uncertain. Community feels strained\, and connection is harder to come by.
2nd Street.

Hearts are weary\, and souls unsettled\, and people of all perspectives are searching—not just for answers\, but for understanding\, healing\, and hope.  \nThis ache is not weakness; it is a holy longing—a sacred desire for a world made whole. From this longing comes the will to dream—a persistent courage to imagine\, resist\, and rebuild a better world.
