SUMMARY:TNT Lenten Discipleship Group
DESCRIPTION:Join others at St. Peter’s in their 20s/30s for our Lenten Discipleship Group. We will meet Tuesdays 7:30-9 p.m. on Zoom beginning Tuesday\, March 11 and ending on Tuesday\, April 15. On April 15\, we will gather in-person for the Holy Week Eucharist service at 6 p.m.We will read “God Didn’t Make Us to Hate Us: 40 Devotions to Liberate Your Faith from Fear and Reconnect with Joy” by Rev. Lizzie McManus-Dail. You can learn more about this amazing book below. \nSign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSch2r4sqqNT2DKA-a2gt1MC37SRfXj25FV9eBVf5-FcgHL31A/viewform?usp=header \nYou don’t have to attend St. Peter’s Church to join us for these gatherings. If you are interested in joining the conversation\, please sign up! \nAbout “God Didn’t Make Us to Hate Us“\nA first-of-its-kind devotional for the disenchanted\, disillusioned\, and deconstructedCountless Christians are deconstructing the fear-based faith they were handed\, but many don’t want to give up on God—they want to love and be loved by Jesus without hateful or abusive theology. If you’re one of these believers\, this feminist\, anti-racist\, LGBTQ-affirming devotional will take you on a journey of spiritual reenchantment. Featuring 40 devotions on God’s radical and liberating salvation\, it’s here to help you heal your church hurt\, restore your sense of community\, and embrace Jesus’s heart-healing forgiveness. Move beyond rigid religion and reconnect with the undeniable truth that predates and will outlive all the toxic theology in the world: God made you to love you. \nTNT discipleship groups are small groups of folks in their 20s/30s who want to explore faith\, theology\, and day-to-day living. We gather on Zoom for an informal yet intentional space to do that together.

SUMMARY:Palm Sunday as Protest
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday we will celebrate the beginning of Holy Week with Palm Sunday\, including the Liturgy of the Palms. For this liturgy\, we start outside in the churchyard\, where we hear the story of Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem as people waved palms and threw down their coats like a tapestried red carpet. On Sunday\, we will reenact this procession together. We are remembering – not just recalling but re-membering – the story in an embodied way. \nBut the truth is\, oftentimes the palm processional can feel awkward\, even for longtime church-goers. We are called to wave branches and shout the well-known but perhaps not well-understood phrase\, “Hosannah in the highest!” The liturgy can fall flat as people can’t quite decide how we’re supposed to show up for this part of the service. There is this gap between the liturgy and the people coming together to celebrate that liturgy. So what do we do? \nAt that original procession\, the cry of “Hosannah in the highest!” was a declaration of joy…and resistance. The people believed their messiah had finally arrived and that messiah was Jesus. An answer to the people’s prayers and a rejection of the Empire that controlled them. In our own time\, we might think of people who stand in line for hours to attend a rally for a political candidate. Or fans crowded outside of a concert or after a Broadway play\, waiting for a glimpse of their favorite artist. \nAnother contemporary example would be a protest\, an organized action to highlight injustice and call for change. If you’ve been to a protest\, you know there are no halfhearted mutters or shuffling feet marches. People are loud and connected and hopeful even while being angry or scared. There’s more connection here to those Judeans 2\,000 years ago than we might realize. What would happen to our procession if we saw Palm Sunday as a protest? \nJoin Rev. Sarah in the Parish House to talk more about the original context of Palm Sunday and how we might translate it to our own.
