SUMMARY:Taizé Holy Week Prayer Service
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday of Holy Week\, join us for a contemplative service based on the prayer practices of the Taizé Monastery. Taizé is an ecumenical monastery in France that for more than 50 years has ministered to young people from around the world\, to advance peace\, trust in God\, and mutual understanding. Prayer in the style of Taizé includes simple repetitive sung chants written in many different languages\, as well as scripture readings and a period of silent prayer. All are welcome\, no matter your familiarity with Taizé!

SUMMARY:Virtual Way of the Cross
DESCRIPTION:On the cross Jesus said: “My God\, My God\, Why have you forsaken me?” as if to say “Why is it like this?” He was one who was not separate from our own suffering. \nMany of us feel the weight of anxiety and fear as we journey through the current world. During this season of Lent\, we look to the life and teachings of Jesus. We have hung stations of the cross along our brick wall on Pine Street\, where we pair the traditional story of Jesus’ crucifixion with contemporary issues and images\, showing struggle\, resilience\, and hope. \nWe will gather on Zoom this Wednesday evening to pray these stations together with Rev. Laurie\, and invite you into that conversation and prayer. You can view the stations online here. \nJoin us on Zoom: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85002518007?pwd=gjH3NfiynVAYlnHZOHADmRgsW1etUy.1Meeting ID: 850 0251 8007; Passcode: 717275 \n

SUMMARY:Bible Study: Following the Lectionary through Lent
DESCRIPTION:The Revised Common Lectionary is a three year calendar of prescribed\, Scriptural texts that many Christian denominations\, including the Episcopal Church\, use for Sunday worship. The lectionary during Lent is particularly rich\, but it’s rare that a preacher can fit all four readings from the Hebrew Bible\, Psalms\, Epistle and Gospel into any 15-minute sermon. \nDuring Lent\, consider joining Rev. Laurie and the St. Peter’s Bible study regulars as they take an early\, deeper\, and lingering look at the upcoming Sunday readings.  Chances are these sacred texts and their connections to each other will enrich  your experience of the church’s Lenten journey through the wilderness of hope lost into new the promise of astonishing joy and new life. \nAll are welcome. You do not need to do anything to prepare. Come as you are. This Morning Bible Study is on Zoom only\, not in-person! SUMMARY:"We Believe...?" Lenten Study & Supper Group
DESCRIPTION:“We Believe…?” Lenten Study & Supper Group\n6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings February 25 through March 18\nAt St. Peter’s Church & Christ Church: Click here to register \nThis Lent\, join folks from St. Peter’s and Christ Church for a thoughtful\, honest\, and welcoming evening Adult Forum exploring one of the most familiar (and often most puzzling) parts of our worship: the Nicene Creed. Over four Wednesday evenings\, we’ll ask real questions together: Why do we say the Creed? What’s hard about it? What’s life-giving? What do you believe? \nWhether you love the Creed\, struggle with it\, or aren’t sure why it matters at all\, your questions are not only welcomed—they’re essential. Each session includes dinner\, teaching\, and conversation\, moving from history and close reading to reflection and creativity\, and concluding with the chance to write your own creed in community. Come curious\, come skeptical\, come hungry—for food\, for community\, and for meaning. \nFor the program at Christ Church on February 25 & March 4:\n• Sessions will take place on the third floor of Christ Church Neighborhood House\, located at 20 N. American Street.\n• Parking is available for Christ Church on American Street. You can get a parking pass at the front desk of the Neighborhood House. There will also be a few spots in the parking lot at the end of Filbert. \nFor the program at St. Peter’s on March 11 & 18:\n• Sessions will take place in the parlor of the Parish House at 313 Pine Street.\n• Parking is available for St. Peter’s at the parking lot off Lombard Street\, just past the intersection with Third Street. Some spots might be available along Pine Street opposite the Parish House at 313 Pine. \nPlease click here to fill out a registration form if you plan to participate\, so we can plan to have enough supper for all. You do not have to attend all four sessions. \n

SUMMARY:Ashes-To-Go
DESCRIPTION:St. Peter’s clergy will distribute ashes from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday\, February 18\, at Washington Square Park. \nSt. Peter’s Episcopal Church\, located at Third and Pine Streets in Philadelphia\, is participating in the nationwide movement called “Ashes to Go” (www.AshesToGo.org). \nIn the Christian tradition\, Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of Lent\, a time for reflection and repentance in preparation for the celebration of Easter. For centuries\, Christians have received a cross of ashes on the face at the beginning of that season as a reminder of mortal failings and an invitation to receive God’s forgiveness.

SUMMARY:TNT Shrove Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:Join 20s/30s at St. Peter’s to celebrate Shrove Tuesday together with a breakfast-for-dinner “brinner” potluck. Caroline Slingluff will host us in her home. Bring a favorite breakfast dish or\, in the spirit of Mardi Gras\, indulgent food or drink. Or just bring yourself! Mardi Gras is about joy before discipline\, celebration before reflection\, life before mortality. It’s the deep breath before the long\, honest exhale of Lent. Along with fellowship together\, we will spend some time in conversation and contemplation about this holy tension. Email Rev. Sarah to RSVP and to receive Caroline’s address.

SUMMARY:Service of Silence & Sorrow
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Sarah Hedgis-Kligerman will lead a Service of Silence & Sorrow in the church on Good Friday. This alternative Good Friday liturgy invites worshipers into an intimate and vulnerable space. Our Good Friday service rests in the belief that in places of sorrow\, lament\, and grief we meet God differently. In our culture of conflict avoidance\, we do not give ourselves a chance to meet the God who sits with us in our sorrow. With this in mind\, central to this service is creating a space where people can gather around the cross with as much vulnerability as possible in silence and in sorrow.
