SUMMARY:Women's Retreat: Listen to Me
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful and engaging women’s retreat centered on the newly released book\, Listen to Me: The Women of the Bible Speak Out by Cordelia Biddle. This compelling book gives voice to often-overlooked biblical women. Through selected chapters\, we’ll explore how these women’s stories resonate today—especially in spaces where women’s voices have long been marginalized. \nAuthor (and St. Peter’s parishioner!) Cordelia Biddle will be with us to share her experience writing the book and lead us into a deeper conversation about the importance of women telling their stories\, both ancient and modern. For each book chapter and biblical character we discuss\, Rev. Sarah will offer biblical grounding using a womanist hermeneutic of suspicion—an approach that invites us to ask hard questions\, seek deeper truths\, and read Scripture with bold curiosity. \nThe retreat will include discussion\, reflection\, and shared learning. Our time together will end with a short Eucharist service. Participants are asked to register in advance and read specific excerpts of the book before attending. The workshop performance will feature an amazing cast of local actors and original songs by Betsy Alexander and Maddy Vaver.\n\nMonologues by a radicalized\, time-travelling Eve\, a nonbinary and initially defensive God\, a pragmatic Ruth\, and angry Bathsheba build momentum and urgency. The women demand to be heard. A resentful Cain and his grieving mother bring human tragedy to the tale.\n\nThe cast of biblical women come together with Eve in Part II\, when the women and their laments take center stage. As they confront the myths and personal histories that bind them\, they begin to imagine a future in which they\, and all women\, control their own fates.\n\nWe envision a full stage production in future where Lot’s wife\, Vashti\, Delilah et al add their vital voices.

On this day\, we will celebrate the feast day of the Patron Saint of Animals\, Saint Francis of Assisi. St. Francis is remembered for his love of all creatures great and small. \nAt the end of the worship service\, all will be invited to go outside in the churchyard for the Blessing of the Animals.
