SUMMARY:Tell Me Your Story: Imam Kenneth Nuriddin
DESCRIPTION:On the feast of the Epiphany we remember the wise men from the east — ambassadors from a different land\, neither Christian nor Jewish\, who came bearing gifts for the Christ child. In honor of the wise men\, our neighbor Imam Kenneth Nuriddin from The Philadelphia Masjid will begin the 11 AM service at St. Peter’s by chanting the Islamic Call to Prayer. Imam Nuriddin will also be our guest speaker at 10 a.m. where he will tell us about his own journey of faith.  Please come and hear first hand how our God is busily at work in other faith traditions!

SUMMARY:Repairers of the Breach
DESCRIPTION:We will gather in the parlor after coffee hour on Sunday. There will be sandwiches and salad provided for lunch. You can grab lunch whenever you arrive\, and the workshop itself will begin at 1 p.m. \nOur country is at a hinge moment that calls for people of faith to stand up against all sinful systems of oppression and violence.  Many members of St. Peter’s are deeply engaged in this work. \nSt. Peter’s Repairers of the Breach Workshops will feature lay ministers who will share what they are doing to confront the political  powers that diminish\, violate\, and threaten the lives of our neighbors. \nOur first workshop will feature parishioner Kat Voit\, who joined St. Peter’s in 2016 and currently serves as Rector’s Warden. Professionally\, Kat is Pro Bono Counsel at Duane Morris LLP\, where she leads the firm’s pro bono program that provides more than 39\,000 pro bono hours annually. Her personal legal practice focuses on aiding survivors of violence/torture in immigration\, military/veterans benefits\, anti-trafficking\, family law\, and reproductive health matters. Ms. Voit also serves as a liaison to the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion committee. \nOn January 18\, Kat will contextualize her work locally and nationally and explain what members of our community can do to help. Clergy will provide Biblical and theological context\, giving participants the opportunity to discuss how the work being done is discipleship in practice. We hope you will join us on January 18 for the first in a series of Repairers of the Breach workshops!

SUMMARY:Martin Luther King Jr. in Philadelphia: A Historical Visit with a Contemporary Message
DESCRIPTION:As part of our observance of Black History Month\, please join us on Sunday\, February 1\, for a special program with Arthur Sudler\, Director of the Historical Society and Archives at the African American Episcopal Church of St. Thomas\, who will present on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.’s visit to Philadelphia in February 1968. \nDrawing on historical records and reporting\, Sudler will share about where King went and who he met with\, including his time at the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas. We will also focus on King’s messaging about systemic racism and economic injustice as well as how King’s words were covered by the media in his own time—and what each one reveals about the political and moral urgency of his witness. The program will conclude with time for us to consider what King’s visit to Philadelphia asks of us in our own moment.

SUMMARY:Repairers of the Breach: Continuing the Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Our country is at a hinge moment that calls for people of faith to stand up against all sinful systems of oppression and violence.  Many members of St. Peter’s are deeply engaged in this work. On January 18\, we heard from parishioner Kat Voit\, who leads the pro bono program at Duane Morris LLP. \nOn Sunday\, February 1\, we will continue our conversation with Kat with a guided Q&A to consider how her work is an act of discipleship. The conversation will conclude with meditation\, an invocation of the Holy Spirit to help all participants discern how we are being called into mission\, and a communal prayer over the presenter\, thanking God for their ministry and asking that they might be strengthened by God’s grace and our love as they carry it out. \nThere will be sandwiches & salad provided at 12:30 p.m. and the workshop will begin at 1. \nYou do not need to have attended the first workshop to join us on February 1. If you’d like to listen to the first workshop\, you can do so at this link and enter passcode: 5aNC?8AV.

SUMMARY:Ashes-To-Go
DESCRIPTION:St. Peter’s clergy will distribute ashes from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday\, February 18\, at Washington Square Park. \nSt. Peter’s Episcopal Church\, located at Third and Pine Streets in Philadelphia\, is participating in the nationwide movement called “Ashes to Go” (www.AshesToGo.org). \nIn the Christian tradition\, Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of Lent\, a time for reflection and repentance in preparation for the celebration of Easter. For centuries\, Christians have received a cross of ashes on the face at the beginning of that season as a reminder of mortal failings and an invitation to receive God’s forgiveness.

SUMMARY:"We Believe...?" Lenten Study & Supper Group
DESCRIPTION:“We Believe…?” Lenten Study & Supper Group\n6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings February 25 through March 18\nAt St. Peter’s Church & Christ Church: Click here to register \nThis Lent\, join folks from St. Peter’s and Christ Church for a thoughtful\, honest\, and welcoming evening Adult Forum exploring one of the most familiar (and often most puzzling) parts of our worship: the Nicene Creed. Over four Wednesday evenings\, we’ll ask real questions together: Why do we say the Creed? What’s hard about it? What’s life-giving? What do you believe? \nWhether you love the Creed\, struggle with it\, or aren’t sure why it matters at all\, your questions are not only welcomed—they’re essential. Each session includes dinner\, teaching\, and conversation\, moving from history and close reading to reflection and creativity\, and concluding with the chance to write your own creed in community. Come curious\, come skeptical\, come hungry—for food\, for community\, and for meaning. \nFor the program at Christ Church on February 25 & March 4:\n• Sessions will take place on the third floor of Christ Church Neighborhood House\, located at 20 N. American Street.\n• Parking is available for Christ Church on American Street. You can get a parking pass at the front desk of the Neighborhood House. There will also be a few spots in the parking lot at the end of Filbert. \nFor the program at St. Peter’s on March 11 & 18:\n• Sessions will take place in the parlor of the Parish House at 313 Pine Street.\n• Parking is available for St. Peter’s at the parking lot off Lombard Street\, just past the intersection with Third Street. Some spots might be available along Pine Street opposite the Parish House at 313 Pine. \nPlease click here to fill out a registration form if you plan to participate\, so we can plan to have enough supper for all. You do not have to attend all four sessions. \n
