SUMMARY:Wednesday Morning Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Preaching the Gospel to the Ends of the Earth: The Acts of the Apostles \nActs of the Apostles is a continuation of the record begun in the Gospel of Luke. It begins with the disciples asking Jesus when he will restore the Kingdom of Israel.  Jesus responds that it’s none of their business\, but that the Holy Spirit will give them power to go be his witnesses to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)  With astonishing\, terrible and beautiful stories\, the rest of the book of Acts describes just how the disciples carry out that extraordinary task. \nPentecost is the official birthday of the church.  This Pentecost season\, join Rev. Laurie to reflect on what the first disciples have to share with us about being “the church”  in a world so desperately in need of Good News. \nAll are welcome. You do not need to do anything to prepare. Come as you are. This Morning Bible Study is on Zoom only\, not in-person! Join on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84073270479?pwd=r9Ur0NRyDxbmb0sPk0ykauzq9BTva2.1\nMeeting ID: 840 7327 0479; Passcode: 517297 \n

SUMMARY:Dying & Rising with Christ: The Baptismal Covenant
DESCRIPTION:Baptism doesn’t have anything to do with washing away original sin and God loves all babies\, baptized and unbaptized! As a sacrament\, baptism is the outward\, visible sign of the inward\, invisible grace that God’s first and last words about you are these: “This is my beloved\, in whom I am well pleased.” \nPlease join Rev. Laurie on May 24 to reflect on the baptismal covenant and how claiming it as the center of our lives sets us free to love and be loved in costly\, life giving ways.

SUMMARY:Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:In his book “The Resurrection of Jesus\,” author Pinchas Lapide asks\, “How was it possible that his (Jesus’) disciples\, who by no means excelled in intelligence\, eloquence\, or strength of faith\, were able to begin their victorious march of conversion only after the shattering fiasco on Golgotha—a march which put all their success before Easter completely into the shadow?…. The answer of the apostles was brief and unambiguous: the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.” \nDuring Eastertide\, the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost\, join St. Peter’s for Wednesday morning Bible study as we read what the Gospels have to say about the resurrected Jesus’ appearances to his followers which turned their doubt into belief\, their mourning into dancing\, and gave them a joy that nothing in the world could take away. \nAll are welcome. SUMMARY:Education for Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Many people have been taught that one must be ordained to be a minister\, but our vows at baptism say something different: that all baptized Christians are ministers. We are called to be the hands\, heart\, and incarnate body of Christ in our own place through worship\, reflection\, service to others\, and by the proclamation of God’s Word to all people. \nThe Education for Ministry program is designed to help Christians prepare for their ministry. The program is offered through the School of Theology at the University of the South. It is a mentor-led program of Old Testament\, New Testament\, church history\, and philosophical study and reflection. All of these topics are navigated and explored through the lives and spiritual reflection of the members of the group navigating the space together. \nTess Farmer from Christ Church graduated from this program in 2008\, and it was one of the most formative spiritual experiences she has ever lived. The program built an incredible community and fundamentally altered the way she experienced scripture\, community\, and the work we are all given to do. \nChrist Church and St. Peter’s plan to launch this program in cooperation with each other\, and invite you to learn more about Education for Ministry on May 17. Tess will be with us to introduce the program and answer your questions! If you are interested in learning more about this program\, please join us!

SUMMARY:Repairers of the Breach
DESCRIPTION:We will gather in the parlor after coffee hour on Sunday. There will be sandwiches and salad provided for lunch.  \nOur country is at a hinge moment that calls for people of faith to stand up against all sinful systems of oppression and violence.  Many members of St. Peter’s are deeply engaged in this work. St. Peter’s Repairers of the Breach Workshops will feature lay ministers who will share what they are doing to confront the political  powers that diminish\, violate\, and threaten the lives of our neighbors. \nThis two-part workshop will feature parishioner Bob Hornsby\, the co-founder of Jobomax Global\, an impact-focused venture that addresses the housing deficit in West Africa. The company has provided over $6 million in loans where traditional mortgage markets do not exist\, creating a new asset class for impact investors and dramatically accelerating economic development. Bob’s expertise is to build and scale social enterprises that deliver strong financial returns while creating lasting economic opportunity in underserved communities. \nClergy will provide Biblical and theological context\, giving participants the opportunity to discuss how the work being done is discipleship in practice.

SUMMARY:Holy Saturday: A Lament\, A Container
DESCRIPTION:A Grief and Drawing Workshop\nClick here to register \nArtist Marie Elcin\, who has partnered with St. Peter’s for events before\, will lead a workshop exploring grief and drawing on Holy Saturday. This will be a contemplative and tender space to spend Holy Saturday\, a quiet day in the Church’s story – the day when Christ lies in the tomb\, when grief is real and hope feels hidden. In the Episcopal tradition\, we honor this in-between space\, trusting that even in silence and sorrow\, God is at work. Together\, through simple drawing practices and optional ritual release\, we will make space for lament\, memory\, and the tender hope that even in the tomb\, Love has not abandoned us. \nYou do not need any artistic skill or experience to participate. Please do not let any drawing hesitation prevent you from this holy space on this holy day. Bring an object that feels related to a lost one or a grief experience.

SUMMARY:Virtual Way of the Cross
DESCRIPTION:On the cross Jesus said: “My God\, My God\, Why have you forsaken me?” as if to say “Why is it like this?” He was one who was not separate from our own suffering. \nMany of us feel the weight of anxiety and fear as we journey through the current world. During this season of Lent\, we look to the life and teachings of Jesus. We have hung stations of the cross along our brick wall on Pine Street\, where we pair the traditional story of Jesus’ crucifixion with contemporary issues and images\, showing struggle\, resilience\, and hope. \nWe will gather on Zoom this Wednesday evening to pray these stations together with Rev. Laurie\, and invite you into that conversation and prayer. You can view the stations online here. \nJoin us on Zoom: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85002518007?pwd=gjH3NfiynVAYlnHZOHADmRgsW1etUy.1Meeting ID: 850 0251 8007; Passcode: 717275 \n

SUMMARY:Repairers of the Breach
DESCRIPTION:We will gather in the parlor after coffee hour on Sunday. There will be sandwiches and salad provided for lunch. You can grab lunch whenever you arrive\, and the workshop itself will begin at 1 p.m. \nThis two-part workshop will feature parishioner Beverly Woods\, who has spent a career in both community-based organizations and municipal government. Recent examples of her projects include stabilizing communities after building collapses and utility failures; community-based COVID-19 vaccination programs; heat injury prevention programs; high quality shelter spaces for homeless families; and business development interventions to preserve services in neighborhoods. Retired in December 2024\, Beverly has pivoted to providing the same skills\, expertise\, and access to the organizations for which she volunteers\, which include Reinvestment Fund; Philly Bridge and Jawn (PB&J)\, a nascent youth- serving organization in Philadelphia’s Kensington community; Mission First Housing Group; Northern Children’s Services; and the Powelton Village Civic Association\, where she lives. \nClergy will provide Biblical and theological context\, giving participants the opportunity to discuss how the work being done is discipleship in practice.

SUMMARY:And Also Some Women
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Women in the History of St. Peter’s\, Known and Unknown \nJoin author Cordelia Biddle and historian Mike Krasulski for a two-part series exploring the rich history of women at St. Peter’s. Learn about historical women who started St. Peter’s vital outreach efforts…up to the more-recent history of our first female rector’s warden and first female priest of a major Center City church. We will also reflect on the truth that there is still a lot of information we do not have about the many amazing women who have been a part of this church since 1761. Join us for a time of learning and group discussion!

SUMMARY:"We Believe...?" Lenten Study & Supper Group
DESCRIPTION:“We Believe…?” Lenten Study & Supper Group\n6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings February 25 through March 18\nAt St. Peter’s Church & Christ Church: Click here to register \nThis Lent\, join folks from St. Peter’s and Christ Church for a thoughtful\, honest\, and welcoming evening Adult Forum exploring one of the most familiar (and often most puzzling) parts of our worship: the Nicene Creed. Over four Wednesday evenings\, we’ll ask real questions together: Why do we say the Creed? What’s hard about it? What’s life-giving? What do you believe? \nWhether you love the Creed\, struggle with it\, or aren’t sure why it matters at all\, your questions are not only welcomed—they’re essential. Each session includes dinner\, teaching\, and conversation\, moving from history and close reading to reflection and creativity\, and concluding with the chance to write your own creed in community. Come curious\, come skeptical\, come hungry—for food\, for community\, and for meaning. \nFor the program at Christ Church on February 25 & March 4:\n• Sessions will take place on the third floor of Christ Church Neighborhood House\, located at 20 N. American Street.\n• Parking is available for Christ Church on American Street. You can get a parking pass at the front desk of the Neighborhood House. There will also be a few spots in the parking lot at the end of Filbert. \nFor the program at St. Peter’s on March 11 & 18:\n• Sessions will take place in the parlor of the Parish House at 313 Pine Street.\n• Parking is available for St. Peter’s at the parking lot off Lombard Street\, just past the intersection with Third Street. Some spots might be available along Pine Street opposite the Parish House at 313 Pine. \nPlease click here to fill out a registration form if you plan to participate\, so we can plan to have enough supper for all. You do not have to attend all four sessions. \n
