What is Reentry Court?

June 19, 2022 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

What is a reentry court and how is it challenging the dominant approach to sentencing and recidivism? On June 19, guest speaker Madelena Rizzo shares about her work with federal reentry court in Philadelphia.

Reentry programs and reentry courts are designed to help returning citizens successfully “reenter” society following their incarceration, thereby reducing recidivism, improving public safety, and saving money.

Madelena Rizzo is entering her final year of a 7-year joint degree program in law and clinical psychology at Drexel University. Madelena is particularly passionate about helping individuals who are returning from prison to ensure a successful transition and prevent additional contact with the criminal justice system. She plans to use her training in clinical forensic psychology to work with individuals immersed in the criminal justice system and argue for policy changes that promote rehabilitation and redemption.
