Most of us really don’t like to be sad. We don’t like to dwell in difficult emotions, even when they’re warranted, appropriate, and important. One way to imagine Lent, then, is as an intentional and sustained season of sadness in which we allow ourselves to witness, in slow-motion, the final weeks and days of Jesus’ life. Together, we will try on the notion of Lent as a season that makes space for sadness in a world that wants to chase sadness away by any means possible. We will watch several short, impactful videos as part of our conversation together. This class will be led by Rev. Sean Lanigan.
