Summer Anti-Racism Series

For seven weeks this summer (Sundays at 10 a.m. July 19 through August 30), we will continue our anti-racism work by focusing on listening to and amplifying the voices of black leaders in a focused way, namely under the leadership of Austin Channing Brown. We will read “I’m Still Here” by Austin Channing Brown and watch excerpts from The Next Question Show, a video web series that engages leading voices on critical topics of racial justice in America.
You can move in and out of this series (i.e. you can miss a Sunday or two), but we strongly encourage you to attend as many as possible in order to deepen our learning as well as establish trust and vulnerability in our group. We are committed to breaking up the book in small, easy to read pieces so you can show up present and ready to engage. While we ask you to watch the full TNQ Show episode before we gather, we will show a key clip to discuss together. Our goal is to make this series feasible during a usually “slow” summer time without compromising the importance of engaging this material in a committed and ongoing way.
The goal of this series is to cultivate a deeper understanding of racism from black and brown leaders; face and name our own white privilege; and, as TNQ Show puts it, to recognize how expansive the work of racial justice can be in order to inform how St. Peter’s continues to become more anti-racist.
