This Sunday Sept. 22, St. Peter’s is partnering with other neighborhood congregations and Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence for a Gun Violence Awareness Day. We will gather at Mother Bethel AME Church at 1:30 p.m. and walk together to St. Peter’s for a service and reception.
Join us as we honor those lost to gun murder and demand stronger and more effective gun laws and regulations.
Earlier that day, St. Peter’s will have additional events as part of Gun Violence Awareness Day. Here is the full schedule of events:
10 a.m. – Bryan Miller, executive director of Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence, will be our guest speaker at the 10 a.m. adult education hour. All are welcome to attend this presentation in the auditorium of St. Peter’s School.
11 a.m. – During the church service, we will dedicate a memorial constructed in the Third Street section of our churchyard. This “Memorial to the Lost” will include T-shirts with names and dates of those killed by guns. It is a visible reminder of the loss of life and disruption of lives that gun violence creates.
12:15 p.m. – After the 11 a.m. service, we will gather in St. Peter’s Way during coffee hour, where there will be an opportunity to sign letters and petitions to our local legislators, demanding more effective gun laws.
1:30 p.m. – All are invited to meet at Mother Bethel AME Church (419 S. 6th St.) for Gun Violence Awareness Day. We will walk as a group from Mother Bethel to St. Peter’s for a remembrance service and reception.
