Hiding in Plain Sight: The Intriguing Symbolism of Ordinary Objects in Christian Art @ St. Peter's School Auditorium (second floor)
Apr 8 @ 10:00 am – 10:50 am
Hiding in Plain Sight: The Intriguing Symbolism of Ordinary Objects in Christian Art @ St. Peter's School Auditorium (second floor) | Philadelphia | Pennsylvania | United States
Christianity has always made masterful use of art to communicate messages, attract converts, and educate and entertain the faithful. Images were once the television and movies of their time, and when European culture was shaped by Christian teachings, the art rose to amazing heights of beauty and complexity. Part of the lasting attraction of this period is the fascinating lexicon of deeply significant symbols in the plainclothes of ordinary objects. This talk, by artist, art historian, and parishioner Marilyn MacGregor, will reveal this world of puzzles and hidden meanings with fine examples of art from the period. [email protected] is the adult education hour on Sunday mornings at St. Peter’s. We try to offer a wide range of programming to engage your mind and your spirit, and we hope you’ll join us as often as you’re able.
